Hi valued carers,

It’s the end of October – and what an October it’s been! The month has been bustling with activity with both Mental Health Month and Carers Week on our radars. Carers ACT and Mental Health Carers Voice have left our mark in various ways. We’ve presented at the MHJHADS Carer Awareness Training, taken part in the Mental Health Month Panel at Canberra Hospital, and hosted a delightful policy and advocacy carer appreciation lunch. Our reach extended to places like the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Prime Minister and Cabinet, and Geoscience, not to mention media coverage through local ABC radio, ABC news, and the Canberra Times. These are all tributes to the incredible work you do as carers, and we want to extend our heartfelt appreciation.

Speaking of appreciation, we held two workshops as part of our Reaching the Peak strategic forum for the 3-year plan. Thank you to everyone who attended – the workshops were an absolute success, with over 20 carers sharing their valuable insights and feedback. Your contributions are invaluable as we shape our strategic plan for the next three years, and we look forward to sharing the finished plan with you all.

Aside from the forum, we’ve also been actively engaged in some key consultations in the mental health space. From offering feedback on the design of the Watson Health Precinct to participating in discussions about Mortality and Morbidity Guidelines, Dhulwa Secure Mental Health Ward Model of Care, and the Mental Health Lived Experience Family/Carer/Kin Peak Body, your voices have been at the forefront.
