Hi valued carers,

Happy New Year (it’s not too late to say that, right?)! As we step into 2024, we are excited to begin a new chapter with you all. Along with the new year, we are also introducing the new publishing schedule for our newsletter to keep you better informed about what’s going on in the mental health world.

The upcoming year promises to be busy and productive for us at MHCV. With budget announcements, the Territory election, and theMHS carers forum co-hosting (stay tuned for more details), there’s much to look forward to. We’ve already started strong by meeting with our fellow peaks HCCA and MHCN to discuss various advocacy activities that we can collaborate on, with the goal of improving the mental health system in the ACT over the next year.

In our recent outreach activities, we’ve had the pleasure of delivering a carer awareness service to HAART. This is the first of many such engagements planned for the first half of this year. Each of these sessions is designed to provide valuable information to staff who interact with carers the most, equipping them with the skills to best support the carers they interact with.

We’ve also scheduled a ‘Do No Harm’ training session for March that you can now sign up for. This unique training is designed to equip you with safe storytelling skills. Whether you’re advocating for yourself, the person you care for, or simply navigating general life situations, these skills can prove to be invaluable.
